Although the baseball cap may seem like a relatively new design, its origins date back to the 19th century and... sports teams. As early as 1849, the New York Knickerbockers baseball team began wearing the prototype of baseball caps. At the time, they were made of wool and had lace inserts on the back. The direct prototype of the modern baseball cap is considered to be the headgear worn by Brooklyn Excelsiors players in 1860. Even then, the caps had the characteristic rounded dome and hard visor. Also from the team originated the name baseball, which is still used today. However, it took another century for the caps to go into mass production and become widely available. In the 1980s, baseball caps became part of streetwear fashion. This was contributed by, among others, rappers, who increasingly used caps in styling. The first caps had a visor made of cardboard. Unfortunately, this was not a good solution, as the material softened and deteriorated when exposed to water and moisture. Today, polypropylene or HDPE is most commonly used. The material is lightweight, flexible and resistant to moisture. When buying a cap, it is worth knowing the basic variants of the accessory.
