Watermelon vampires

Watermelons are not only a great source of vitamins and minerals, but it turns out that they can also be a real movie threat. At the beginning of the 20th century there was a legend in Roma circles, the potential film adaptation of which could successfully compete with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. It was believed that watermelons could transform into dangerous vampires. Currently, it is difficult to say what the origins of this legend were, but it is worth mentioning that it existed in several different versions. Of course, the common point of all variants are watermelon vampires. But how do they actually come into existence? The first story seems to carry a moral that you should not waste food. Fresh fruit in particular spoils quickly, so storing it for a long time can lead to the appearance of mold. However, according to the legend, something even much worse can happen. If watermelon is stored for more than a week and no member of the household tastes the fruit, it turns into a vampire. In another variant of the legend, there are unexpected characters who also take on a surprising incarnation. The story goes that watermelons and pumpkins turn into vampires to fight each other in an epic duel. Why do they dislike each other so much? Only an experienced ethnologist could know the answer to this question. It is known that boiling water can neutralize magical creatures.
