Unique patterns

Buying socks with giraffe patterns is a great opportunity to learn some interesting facts about these noble animals. The most popular species is the savannah giraffe, which holds the title of the tallest land animal and the largest of the ruminants to have lived in modern times. The giraffe's neck alone can reach a length of up to 6 meters, while the mammals weigh up to 1,200 kilograms. The animals live mainly in savannas and grasslands. The most important food source for giraffes is acacia leaves, which are inaccessible to most other animals due to their altitude. The origin story of the name of these majestic mammals is interesting. The Latin name is camelopardalis, and it is a reflection of what animals the giraffe was thought to be a combination of. This is because it was believed that the long-necked animal was born as a result of a cross between a camel and a leopard. Even a polonized name, the camelopard, was coined, which can be found, among other places, in the pages of Jacob Wujek's Bible. The French term girafe or English giraffe is derived from the Arabic zarafa, translated as nice and graceful. The Polish name giraffe was inspired by the French term. It would seem that all giraffes are similar, but scientists distinguish as many as 9 subspecies. How to recognize which one an individual belongs to? A clue here is the area where the animals are found, but the most important thing turns out to be the patterns on the coat. Each subspecies has a different characteristic pattern, moreover, all individuals have unique patterns. What else distinguishes giraffes? Their pregnancy lasts as long as 15 months, and the newborn can be as tall as 2 meters. The baby is a real master at adapting to new conditions. After just a few hours it is able to run. Giraffes are extremely beautiful and fascinating animals that still hide many secrets from humans.
