It's time for Spooky Season!

Are rooster socks suitable for Halloween?

Candies in the shape of pumpkins and skulls are appearing in stores, and properties are starting to be decorated with spider webs. These are just a few of the most popular signs that the spooky season is approaching. What is it actually? It could be translated as spooky time. It precedes Halloween and is undoubtedly most popular in the United States. While there the tradition of wandering costumed people in search of candy is the norm, in Poland it is still considered rather an extravagance. However, every year more and more Poles decide to celebrate Halloween. Some take inspiration primarily from the West, while others combine it with local traditions. Although few people today remember our native Grandparents, they have much in common with the customs of other countries. Among other things, fire magic and the motif of the return of the souls of the dead to Earth play an important role in many traditions. If you like scary stories and ancient legends are close to your heart, you will certainly like Halloween socks. The selection is really quite large. Among the bestsellers you will find skeleton socks, zombie socks and ghost socks. There is another unique pair that will also work for this special time. Why are socks with roosters a great choice for Halloween? It's all due to Slavic folklore and one of its demons.

Don't mess with the plonek

Plonek was once said to inhabit the central Polish territory. The creature's name comes from the Old Polish plonek, meaning harvest. Plonek was a domestic guardian demon that looked like a black rooster. It was one of those demons whose company was appreciated. That is why a loose board was left in the gable wall of the barn, through which the creature could get inside. It happened that the plonk accompanied one family for several generations. What did it do? He ensured the fertility of grain and made the harvest surprising in its abundance year after year. Every family knew the recipe for the plonk's favorite dish. However, the recipe was scrupulously guarded for fear that others would try to lure the demon to their home. The creature's company was very valuable, but it didn't end the same way for everyone. Plonek helped hard-working and good people, but when he found himself in a lazy family, he started messing around. Then he would make noise and even destroy crops until one day he simply disappeared in search of new hosts.
