How to save the lovers?
Centuries ago, there was a settlement on Lake Wigry, where Wingryn lived. The girl was the daughter of a fisherman and spent every free moment gazing at the surface of the lake. Only by the water could she find peace. One day the sky was suddenly covered with black clouds, and the waters of the lake rose among the waves. Wingryn already wanted to return home, but suddenly she spotted a human silhouette in the heart of the lake. Without hesitating a moment, she got on the boat and began to sail towards the unfortunate man. It was not an easy task, but the girl was an excellent sailor, and soon she was already sailing to shore with the young man she had rescued from the embrace of the cold waves. The man struggled to leave the boat and only then did the youngsters' gazes meet. Wingrin felt her body flooded with a wave of warmth that was to accompany her every day from then on. The girl was frightened by her feelings and ran away, leaving the young man alone on the shore. Unluckily for Wingryn, the young man was clothed in a habit. From then on, the youth went to the lake every day to look into each other's eyes, if only for a moment. The monk began planning a trip to Gniezno to ask to be released from his monastic vows there. Before he could do so, however, the prior learned of his intention, who had the young monk locked up in a tower. It wasn't long until the sound of bells rang out in the neighborhood. Wingrin had no doubt that it was her beloved who had taken his own life. The girl's heart could not withstand such a terrible blow. At the same time, two small islands adorned with birch trees appeared on the lake. Just when it seems that the islands are about to merge, the waters of the lake push them even further apart. Legend has it that when a couple with great affection comes to the lake, then the islands will be reunited, and the souls of Wingryn and Fabian will finally be able to meet.
