The legend of the Torun raftsman

In medieval times, Toruń was located on several trade routes, which allowed the city to flourish. The mayor wanted to expand the territory of Toruń to make room for new merchants and craftsmen. Bad luck that a witch lived in the man's chosen areas. When the mayor showed up to inspect the new lands, an ailing woman with two small children appeared before his eyes. As soon as she saw the dignitaries, she asked them for help and admission to the city. Unfortunately, her request was ignored, and at the same moment the woman assumed her true form. The witch announced that from now on the city would become inhabited by frogs. Before the men had time to react, the witch disappeared. From that moment on, daily life in Torun changed tremendously. More frogs could be seen in the streets than people, who began to hide in their homes in terror. The economy also suffered. Merchants, hearing the frightening tales, were afraid to come with goods to Torun, and they even stopped taking orders. The helpless mayor announced that whoever managed to fight off the scourge would be rewarded with a mountain of gold and the hand of his only daughter, who was famous for her beauty and extraordinary kindness. Just then, a young raftsman appeared in Torun and returned to his hometown. When his gaze met that of the girl, love was ignited in the young man's heart. The raftsman grabbed his fiddle, and as soon as the air caught their sounds, an amazing thing happened. All the frogs began to head toward the music. This is how they reached the wetlands that the mayor had previously wanted to settle. Since then, the frogs have been living in the wetlands on the outskirts of the city. A brave raftsman took the mayor's daughter as his wife, and legend has it that this was one of the most amicable marriages, which cared extremely for both people and other creatures.
