When do fathers celebrate?

The establishment of Father's Day became a natural follow-up to the extraordinary popularity enjoyed by Mother's Day. Much of the credit for this goes to Sonora Smart Dodd, daughter of William Smart - a Civil War veteran. Mother's Day was established in 1907, and three years later Sonora came up with the idea of introducing an analogous holiday for fathers. She wanted it to ensure that through this, men's parenting efforts were also recognized. Sonora greatly respected her father and wanted him to have his own holiday as well. After the death of his wife, it was in the hands of William Smart that the responsibility for raising Sonora and her five younger siblings rested. The first Father's Day was celebrated in 1910 in Spokane, Washington, where the Smart family lived. However, it took decades more for the holiday to become a permanent part of the calendar for all Americans. In 1972, President Nixon established an official Father's Day. Depending on the country, the holiday is celebrated on various dates. In Poland, of course, it is June 23. In Spain, Portugal and Italy, the holiday falls on March 19, which is St. Joseph's Day. In Denmark, Father's Day is celebrated on June 5, while already in other Scandinavian countries it is celebrated on the second Sunday in November. The third Sunday in June is special for fathers in France, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Turkey.
