Have you ever wondered why Grandmother's Day is celebrated just on January 21? The answer to this question lies in the 1960s. It was then that the idea of creating such a holiday appeared in the pages of the weekly magazine Woman and Life. Much credit for the adoption of the new custom went to Kazimierz Flieger, a journalist for the Express Poznański. Nowadays it is difficult to imagine January without Grandmother's Day and Grandfather's Day. However, many countries honor grandparents at quite different times of the year. In France, Grandmothers' Day is a movable holiday that falls on the first Sunday in March. In our country, the story began with a newspaper, while in France, coffee turned out to be the key. We are talking about the iconic Café Grand'Mère, or so-called grandmother's coffee. The originators of the drink were the Monnier couple, who sold a special kind of coffee in their deli. The beverage's popularity quickly transcended Roubaix. Nowadays, many customs are related precisely to coffee. Grandchildren present their grandmothers with flowers, laurels and chocolates, but often take them to coffee shops as well. In this way, the tradition has continued for several decades.
