The best gifts for Grandparents' Day

Socks for grandpa - is it a good idea?

A good grandfather is a real treasure for any grandchild. If your grandfather is a friend, caregiver and best companion for you, January 22 is the perfect opportunity to express your gratitude to him for all the years spent together. Quite a few people admit that their most beautiful childhood memories are associated with their grandparents. It was they who showed their grandchildren both the beauty and absurdities of this world. Wondering what gift for Grandparents' Day would be the best choice? This year we are abandoning colognes and chocolates in favor of colorful socks. Above all, we bet on models that make a reference to a specific relationship. As a child, did you go fishing with your grandfather, or maybe you explored different corners of Poland together? For all travelers, we recommend socks with a camper. It's a pair that can bring back special memories, but also encourage further voyages. Have you always dreamed of visiting seaside destinations? If so, socks with a lighthouse will be the perfect motivation. If, on the other hand, you prefer urban climates, then the Lodz socks will be perfect.

The origins of Grandparents' Day

Polish grandmothers have been celebrating their holiday since 1964, but grandparents had to wait much longer for a day dedicated to them. In 1978, Polish Television held a contest to choose the date of Grandparents' Day. The initial favorite was May 30, which was Mieczyslaw Fogg's birthday. Although the concept seemed to have a lot of merit, in the end the holiday did not catch on. So it was decided that the best solution was to establish Grandparents' Day immediately after the celebration of grandmothers. Thus, since 1981, grandparents have officially celebrated their holiday annually on January 22. In Poland, grandmothers and grandfathers celebrate their holidays separately, while in the United States both groups celebrate National Grandparents Day, which is a movable holiday and falls on the first Sunday after Labor Day. Americans have even created a special anthem for grandmothers and grandfathers. A Song for Grandma and Grandpa resounds during this special holiday. Also popular in the United States is the tradition of giving gifts to one's grandparents. In addition, larger family gatherings are often held. Relatives gather over dinner or a barbecue together. Special attention is also paid then to single people. Numerous collections are organized for nursing homes and retirement homes. An important symbol of this day is the forget-me-not, which is supposed to make one always remember elderly family members.
